Natural Wildlife Friendly Backyard Ideas?

We’re moving to the country and we don’t have a lot of land, but some. We want to attract and maintain a natural wildlife friendly backyard. We’ve considered a bat house, hummingbird feeder, squirrel feeders, bird feeders, and maybe even a purple martin house. We live in Central Missouri. Any ideas on what else we may be able to successfully maintain? Or just awesome ideas for our new backyard and garden?

Why do people have to build in every open space available?

Across the street they are wrecking a house bc the owner sold it to some builders. There is all of this wildlife in the 2 acre area. I saw a family of 5 squirrels running aroung and bunnies eating the grass. There are also all of these birds. There homes will all be destroyed. And they need to cut the gas cables and all of that stuff. And the gas cable was in our yard and there is now 2 4 foot deep holes in our yard bc of the builders who only want money. The workers from Nicor who dug the hole felt so bad and they didn’t want to do it but the building company made them even after they called them to tell them it was in another persons lawn. I am 14 y/o boy and don’t want to hold a hunting tournament to get rid of homeless animals. And it is illegal. They are going to start wrecking the house soon. SHould I tell my parents that I am sad. It was so peaceful there and now the poor animals. They could leave some open land in the world and not build all of these houses. There is 4 houses.
4 houses will be put up.

How often are you impacted by wildlife? Are the squirrels making themselves at home?

Or are the rabbits eating your garden?

Are the raccoons getting into your trash bins?
Maybe skunks or Opossums eating from your bird feeders?
Do you welcome them or try harder to keep their presense unknown?

Fox Squirrel – HD Mini-Documentary

Transcript: “Named for its orange tint and large bushy tail, the fox squirrel is the largest tree squirrel native to North America. It is mainly found in the eastern United States and southern Canada excluding New England with introduced populations in several western states. They thrive in open areas with trees like oak, hickory, walnut and pine that produce food that can be stored for the winter. They primarily depend on tree seeds for food, but when that is scarce they will turn to other sources like buds, fruits, grain and insects. They hide small caches of nuts in dispersed locations and come back to retrieve them in the winter. Unretrieved nuts are left to germinate and form new trees. Fox Squirrels are dirurnal which means they are active during the day and rest at night. They spend more time on the ground than most tree squirrels, but are still very agile climbers.” For more excitement head to straycompass.com for travel adventure videos.
