What treatment is there for degenerative disc in dogs?

Our almost 11 year old English Spring Spaniel was diagnosed with degenerative discs in her back. She had been limping and the vet took x-rays to be sure it wasn’t her knee. He gave her a cortisone shot on Thurdsay and she was walking better. Then yesterday she chased a squirrel and jumped up and down around the tree and is limping again. The vet said to let her rest a couple days, which is hard to do with the damn squirrels in the yard. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help her? She is our baby and there is no way we want to put her down. She is using both her back legs, so it’s not like she is paralized. It just hurts her to use her right hind leg.

What do squirrels eat in the spring?

I was always told they save nuts for the winter, but I suspect they hibernate in the winter and eat the nuts when they wake up in the spring…?
So is it wrong to say that squirrels eat nuts in the winter?

If you don’t drive to work, what’s the coolest thing that you see or do during your commute?

Sometimes I ride my bike and get to ride through parks, where I see lots of plants (beautiful in the spring!) as well as birds, hares, lizards and squirrels. In the parks, I ride past couples and families out for strolls or kids playing games. One of my favorite characters is a dog who gets REALLY excited whenever a commuter train goes by. His owners take him to an elevated vantage point, so he can look down on the train as it passes by. The dog goes NUTS! It’s hilarious. When I stick to the train or a bus, I read, work or talk to my neighbors, which is always nice. Last week, I stared out the window at a rainbow for a good 3-5 minutes (corny, but lovely). Wouldn’t be able to do these things in a car & I’m wondering what other good experiences people are able to have on their commute when they’re not doing the conventional “drive alone in a car” routine.

My 17 yr old dog is having trouble hearing, how can I call him?

He is wonderful and still pretty active, and still attempts to catch rabbits and squirrels in the yard (by smell?). He has well over two acres of chain link fenced yard that is landscaped pet friendly and has many trees bushes and quiet places to lay and enjoy his old age. I hope he lives to 80. But I am not a spring chicken either and it is difficult to hunt him to tell him his supper is ready (and to check to see if he is OK) I check on him at least 4 or more times a day. He can not stay in the house due to family member with extreme allergies.
I tried the dog wistle but he can not hear it any better than my own whistle. He hears my shouting voice at a distance of maybe 10 – 15 ft but if asleep he does not wake up.
Does anyone have an inventive or original way to get him to show himself so I know he is alright? The vet said his hearing will never improve. He also has cateracts and I can not afford to have them removed.
