I have a bird feeder that no birds come to…no cats at home…dog inside. Why?

filled w/ black sunflower seeds in squirrel proof feeder in shady area

Am I being ignorant or selfish?

My husband works nights. He comes home anytime after 7am. From 7am to 11:45am he has the choice to sleep (which he SHOULD), or do whatever. If it is to hunt, mow the lawn or any other thing, he does. He then picks up our two kids from daycare, eats lunch and they all sleep. I work 7am-3:30pm. If I go to the gym after work, I’m home by 5:30. If I dont, I’m home by 4:15. From 4/5pm to 7pm I make supper if he didnt already, eat, clean up, pack the kids lunch for the next day, get them bathed, clothes set out for the next day, get my clothes ready and ironed for the next day. My husband gets a shower and is in bed by 7pm. After 7 I am limited to what I can do b/c of keeping quiet. Weeknights I have the kids. Weekends I have them. My husband hunts a LOT. If it isnt deer, turkey, bear, squirrel, etc. he also fishes and ice fishes. He does this from before the sun comes up to dark. If I go somewhere, I take the kids or dont go until he comes home. I dont have any hobbies, if I did, I couldnt. I love my kids and I enjoy being with them ALL the time. They are my life and I dont like to “pond” them off to family, etc. However, I’m under 35 and have very little friends. None that I go and do things with. All are single or no kids and rather go to a club or to a bar which I can never do. I have very little family and those that are close I dont trust them to have my kids overnight or alone. I would like to have a friend to do things with but I honestly dont have extra time in my very busy life to go away or out if I work full time, have two kids and my weekends are to run the arrands, groceries, etc. that they would be upset if I were to cancel or cant go out, etc.

I told my husband I only have 2-3 hours a night weekdays and maybe an afternoon Sundays and dont have a hobby, plans, etc. but it is to be assumed he hunts, etc. that I am confined to home with the kids. When he comes home (tired of a full day out) he sleeps so the kids dont see him much.

I get depressed that I am so young and do nothing. I work and sleep. If I could go out all the time and leave my kids with family, I wont do. I guess I’m just stressed?!? I told him it is all about him and when do I have MY time. He says what would I do? Well, I cant say for sure, if it were a sale at a store, I’d shop, if it were to just go away and do whatever myself to get a break from the stress, etc. but to him, he will tell me to go Sat. evening or Sunday, etc. and then I take the kids whereever so he can do outside work Sundays.

Am I wrong for telling him its all about him and I never have time for me? (Sorry for the book but wanted to explain so you knew what I meant)

Is it weird to not feel satisfied with the mammal fauna in your country?

Hello everyone, though my question might sound rather awkward to you, let me explain. I’ve visited many countries, and all of them were home to large and magnificent mammal fauna. My island/country on the other hand is home to bats, the only native mammal. The other native mammal, the giant rice rat went extinct in 1881. We’re also home to the Red rumped agouti (introduce 25, 000 years ago by Amerindians), Black eared opossum (introduced 25, 000 years ago by Amerindians), feral pigs (introduced in the 16 th century by european settlers), small asian mongoose (introduced in the late 19 the century by the British to control the rat population). LOL, I also forgot the brown rat, black rat, and house mouse. Other than the agouti, and the opossum, the other animals are very destructive and invasive. The opossum and agouti have been on the island for so long that they’ve adapted to it and found their own niches. On the other hand, the more recent animals cause trouble. I just feelr ather disatisfied with the mammal fauna, because of:

1. Most of them are not native.
2. I never see them. Most of them are nocturnal.
3. Those which have been on the island for the longest are quite rare due to human encroachment on their territory and predation by dogs etc..

Is this justified, or am I just overreacting? Though, I did like to see deer running about in the countries I’ve visited. And those squirrels. hehe.

Squirrels using bird feeder?

Hi. I bought a bird feeder from Home Depot and I have to refill it every day because the birds love it and swarm it. The first month that I had it I’ve never had trouble with squirrels. Sometimes I would see them peacefully looking for scraps underneath the feeder, and I felt they should get something too. I felt bad that they had to search for seed shells.

SO, I took a handful of regular, plain, unsalted almonds and put them under the feeder where the squirrels snooped around. They were immediately taken by squirrels, and I’d do this everyday. However, now the squirrels got greedy and started attacking the bird feeder. They jump on it and shake it like crazy. This is probably my fault for giving them the almonds.
Anyway, the birds are deterred, but come back once the squirrels are gone and the feeder stops shaking. I don’t mind the two animals sharing, but my Dad sure does. He throws things at the squirrels and even squirts them with water! I absolutely hate this, but what can I do? He’s in charge and doesn’t love animals like I do.
I tried putting some nuts and seeds on the ground away from the feeder, but that lasted only a few minutes.

Now my idea to get the squirrels their fill, to keep them away form the feeder, I will buy a squirrel feeder.

MY QUESTION IS: Should I hang it right near the birds’ or on the opposite side of my pool? I was thinking that if it was closer the the birds’ feeder they will find it more easily.

THANKS! :)
I was thinking of putting grease on the bird feeder and then setting up the squirrel feeder. That way the squirrels can be happy with their own food, and the birds will be happy with theirs, and the fact that the squirrels can’t get to it.

I am looking for a dog for home security, what large dog will not hurt my cat and older male dog?

I have a medium size yard that is fenced but live very
near Grade Schools and High Schools, the children walk past
my yard frequently, I do not want a breed that is aggressive
with children or other pets. I live on a corner, we also
have wild rabbits and many, many squirrels and birds but I
live in a city. I am disabled and not able to walk the animal daily, but my husband insists that he wants a large dog. Please answer my question as best you can. Has anyone
ever heard of a Tatra dog? From Poland? How would I find
one?

A family member literally lives in filth. What can we do to help?

There home is very terrible. There is garbage all over the floors. The dogs urinate all over and paper towels are just thrown on the floor to clean it. The whole house stinks quite awful. Mice, squirrels and other misc. bugs are all over and in the walls. There sewer is bad and fesces backs up into their basement, I am sure causes alot of mold. My sister in law and I have offered to help clean up as best we could but they don’t let us. The house should probably be condemned. Plus, there are children that visit the home. What should we do? It is not a health living situation.

Should i take in a 2yr old squirrel monkey?

Someone on our street is threatning to just leave her monkey in their home when they move. I know animal control will just put him down. What all would it take for me to keep him. I have read a lot and know they need a huge cage, vet care, special diets and a lot of attention. I do plan on having kids soon though and dont want a dangerous animal. Any advise will help thanks.
So no that i have read all of the answsers and suggestions. Where should i take him, does anyone know a place and how should i go about transporting him. I had called animal control and they said primates usually get put to sleep right away and that zoos and resques wont take them because they dont adapt good.
