Squirrels?…?

So I have 2 cats, and they are POLAR OPPOSITES. One is scared of everything, the other is scared of nothing. They like different foods, favor different toys, one is out-going, the other meek… basically, they have totally different innate personalities.
So my question is this: are all animals like that? If I were to watch 2 squirrels, or two bunnies, if I really spend time with them, would I notice two such different personalities? If not, what’s the cut-off? What mammals have that level of psychological complexity, and which ones do not? Is it a difference of intellegence or soul?

What are some ways to entertain a Saluki when hunting is not an option?

I adopted a puppy earlier this year and his owner had no idea what he was. I have since learned that he is a Saluki, which are sight-hunters. If you have any experience directly with Salukis, please let me know of ways I can entertain and exercise him. I have a fenced in back yard so he does go outside to stretch and we do walk. However, he is not interested in any of the toys I have for my labrador retriever and doesn’t care to play fetch or catch so doesn’t really play (except occassionally playing “tackle” or “tug of war” with my lab). He clearly wants to hunt and kill everything he sees (squirrels, birds, deer, cats) but, of course, I cannot let him do that in the neighborhood and no one I know hunts. I have looked into coursing, but there are no coursing groups in my state. He seems happy enough but I would love to give him the opportunity to do what is natural to him in some fashion (running, chasing, etc.). If you have any ideas that you have seen work with Salukis, please share. Thank you.

How can we prevent this dog from attacking or killing more cats?

Hello,
My cat was killed by a staff bull terrier earlier in the summer. We spoke with the owners (who had left it to roam) and they were sorry and said they’d keep the animal under control in the future.
However, it has since attacked two more cats (one belongs to a neighbour, the other belongs to my mum) which have luckily survived and it MAY have also been killing local squirrels. Obviously we cannot make them keep it indoors and the police aren’t interested (‘though they might be if it attacks a human), nor are the local council (dog wardens).
What can we possibly do to deter this dog from coming onto our square and attacking our pets? We try to keep the cats in as much as possible but its cruel to keep a cat cooped up 24/7 when its used to roaming (it cries and cries and cries). The last attack happened whilst we had let the cat out for only ten minutes.
Please don’t suggest anything illegal or cruel.
Thanks in advance.
I’d prefer not to involve any authorities (please don’t judge; just take me word for it, it’ll be ineffective). Are ‘sonic’ guns an option? Or sprays of some kind?
I don’t own a garden (to store a dog until the warden came) or a car (and most taxi drivers refuse to take dogs) to take a dog anywhere….

Police / law inforcement won’t work…. just trust me on this (we ‘know’ of the family and we don’t want re-homing).
Poisoning is not an option either … thats both cruel and illegal
The police were involved and couldn’t care less unless a person was injured. It is a matter for the dog warden as far as they are concerned, and this doesn’t carry any weight round here.. they never answer phone or emails. I suspect the department doesn’t exist anymore after all the cuts.
I resent the inference that I don’t care.. quite obviously I do
Cats are allowed to roam under UK law. Dogs, being MUCH more dangerous, are not. We’re aware of the risks and we never wanted to cat to leave the place after the first cat was mauled. We were assured the dog would be kept under control…. it hasn’t. It turns out other cats are being attacked too. We suspect the dog has gained a taste for this ‘sport’.
Has no-one got any suggestion to original question; how do we stop this dog?
There are places for debates about indoor/outdoor cats… I didn’t set this question as the start of one. I need to know how to deal with this dog, not cats (I’d be posting on another site for that, yes?)
I have never been able to get through to the dog warden, despite numerous times. Like I suggest, I think the department has been disolved. This is not a neighbourhood where you involve the police/courts (especially not with a family like the dog’s owner) unless you no longer like living here. A cultural misunderstanding on behalf of some of the answerers maybe? You’re right, this does STINK.I was getting frustrated with some of the answers as they disregard this simple (if unfortunate) fact.
Please accept my thanks for all answers.
I think if I take the dog to the pound we have a win/win as it will then probably attack me.

What’s your favoriet animal mine’s squirrels and cats?

come on squirrels rock

How to deal with squirrels tearing up my expensive landscaping?

OK I have had it they have been tearing up my red japanese maples for years now they have started tearing apart the evergreens too. There are way too many of them everywhere and they just wont stop. Its not like they are eating anything they just chew off the branches and let them fall to the ground. Can I use a rat trap? Is there any poison? can you train cats to hunt them sobs down?
I tried hair clippings Irish spring soap and even got my friend’s cat to crap in the yard nothing works they keep coming back. I dont have a BB gun but do have several rifles that if used would get the cops here in a heartbeat. I like the big rat traps at Lowes and a high powered sling shot

Should I get an outdoor cat?

I would not say that my family lives on a farm. But we live in a fairly rural neighborhood and we grow fruits and vegetables in our yards. But we have a big problem with squirrels getting our food! We have two dogs that are used to having cats around. When they’re in the yard, the squirrels stay out, but the only thing is they tend to trample the gardens too. Lol. Our yard is shaded by large oak trees, so hawks/eagles don’t really see the squirrels or anything. And because we were having a big problem with rabid foxes, the fox population had to be diminished as well. While I feel safer for the dogs and the children that live here, it again does nothing to remedy the vermin population. We live several miles away from any major roads. The only people that come down our street live in one of the 8 houses on the street. All 8 of us drive slowly because everyone has pets, kids, or both. One of them has a friendly outdoor cat and he seems to be fairing just fine. Should we get an outside cat to control the problem? We actually have a ‘kitty fort’ built outside, but no cats. All of my pets are microchipped etc…
Just to clarify, he/she would be an indoor/outdoor cat. And we do have a problem with all vermin–particularly mice and squirrels
