Here are the two feeders I’m looking at, but will they actually work? I live in the woods and have an abundance of critters looking to steal food. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what will work? Thanks!

Its easy to handle things like squirrels and other animals looking for easy food, nuisance birds are a bit more difficult though, unless the bird is really large it can hang with the best of them, and I can tell you grackles, mocking birds, etc. can and will hang if they think they can get a free meal out of it, about the only nuisance bird that can be stopped is pigeons because they do have difficulties hanging and feeding, that is why they are usually always on the ground when feeding.

The Squirrel Resistant one is a common design and I have a similar one in my garden.
There are also cup designs – the cup sits on top of a 2 or 3 ft stalk so you can position it centrally, away from walls or fences, so the non-flying critters can’t get to the food. Each cup holds a couple of hands full of grain or other feed.
I buy from http://shopping.rspb.org.uk which is a UK website run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), but I’m sure you can get the same in the US. Loads of feeders available at http://shopping.rspb.org.uk/c/BirdFeeders.htm
