There was an interview with Mick Abrahams on ‘Planet Rock’ the other evening talking about his life & the early days of Tull – really interesting & likable guy.
Good cover of a much recorded instrumental. I like it better than Cream’s. Really captures the rock/blues style of the British bands at the time. Mick Abrahms is excellent on the guitar; he left the band after this first album, apparently because of differences with Ian Anderson as to where the band was going musically. Mick wanted to stick with the blues; Anderson had more grandiose ideas. Mick’s Blodwyn Pig band unfortunately went nowhere, while Tull climbed the charts and became superstars.
I love the heavy blues sound so many groups had in this era. This song, along with Warning by black sabbath, is a musical orgasm for me.Also really really like New day yesterday.
Yeah, that’s Mick on guitar. Barre, et al replaced him afterward. I recall buying this record when it was a fresh release and playing the grooves right out of it. My poor mother about died of fright at the very sight of the cover. The music holds up, yeah?
Hmmm … in various parts, do I hear some of the same tones Page used in How Many More Times.
Love Cream a lot too … but everyone has to agree this version is pretty bad ass … and certianly lays to shame once anything the current rock industry pretends to be.
Great rendition of Cat’s Squirrel. For me, it tops the other classic / good versions (Cream, etc.). Indeed, that’s Mick Abrahams on the six string. Martin Barre joined in for the Stand Up album in 1969 and has been a Tull mainstay ever since. // Thanks KKao
This was not Barre. It was Mick Abrams in the Original group. And he could wail with the best of them. He left and went on to form ‘Blodwyn Pig’.
This song ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for posting ! Fond memories ‘cos I lived in London late 60′s-early 70′s & saw these guys at the Marquee down on Wardour St. For my money early Tull recordings are still da goods.

Not as good as Cream’s (they are the masters of the British blues rock sound) but still good
