  1. Put jumping beans in the bird feeder. When the squirrel eats them he will start jumping about uncontrollably. He will bounce down the street and fall into a manhole.

Works on the coyote every time

  2. If you want to enjoy the birds i think you’re going to have to learn to enjoy the squirrels as well.

been feeding the birds and squirrels for years.

  3. Some people have used sandpaper on the poles or slippery tape, like Duct tape. If its slippery, it should be hard for them to climb. They do have a powder you can put on the ground to repel them. I had a squirrel though who would climb on the tree, unfortunately, and was able to open the top of the feeder. Naturally, I stopped using it. The best thing was the tube feeders for the birds. Hope this helps. My neighbor has Nut Trees, chestnut and walnuts, and the squirrels help themselves. But of course, they go in my Pine Tree and eat them and leave the shells for me to clean up! Or the last resort, feed them corn for squirrels.

Most of us are happy to read a whole book just to answer your question. I put a wire around and over the feeder with wire spacing big enough for the birds to get into the feed but too small for a squirrel to fit in.

  5. If you can’t beat them, feed them. Get squirrel feeders that take corn cobs and put them in the furthest corner of your yard away from the bird feeders.
I know where you are coming from. I have squirrels eating all my bird seed, too. Do you have squirrel baffles on your poles? That can help to deter them.

Anyway, I know they can be annoying & wreak havoc with the garden. Squirrels are attracted to all the same things birds are. There really is no way to get rid of one without getting rid of the other.

Squirrel proof feeders, spraying squirrel repellent on the feeders & bird bath, etc is really all you can do. But I don’t know of anything that can really get rid of them because a lot depends on how big the population of squirrels is in your area– they’ll just keep coming.

the best way is to buy a squirrel trap. THey are a cage that shuts them in when they go inside. you just put some food in it. if you dont want to kill it you must release it like 10 miles away so it doesn’t return. I have had squirrel problems before and this was the most effective way to catch them.
