I dunno We tried those round ,half sphere plastic ovals that hang above the feeder and tip the squirrels off. The buggers learned to slide to the edge and hang upside down and if that didn't work they swung the sphere till they could get close enough to the feeder to jump on it. Greasing the pole so they can't climb up it works till they get the grease wiped off. The only thing that might work is to put a very tall feeder in the middle of a field so they can't jump on it but then the birds don't like it without the protection of the trees. It's a Catch 22 situation. Thank goodness at this place we don't see very many squirrels. Maybe because we have feral cats around. We never tried the squirrel repellents. I dunno if they work or not.

Experience. Talk to pet stores and feed stores to find out what is available in your area.

@thebluebunny1 Do not worry, we love squirrels and feed them separately in their own feeder. Sometimes, they would still go after the birds' food and, if left to their own devices, would empty an entire feeder. Squirrels, even if full, often hide or cache food in the ground, so they never stop taking.
